& KENJUTSU

Teaching nonviolence on Bainbridge for more than 25 years

Welcome to Island Aikido & Kenjutsu, located on beautiful Bainbridge Island, Washington, where we offer adult and youth instruction in Aikido, Kenjutsu, Aiki-Ken, and Aiki-Jo.

We celebrate diversity and welcome all practitioners who bring openness and respect to their practice.

Aikido was developed by O-Sensei Morihei Ueshiba (1883–1969). O-Sensei practiced many martial arts in his lifetime before he founded the art we call Aikido.

He believed that Aikido was a way to resolve the inner conflict we all face and thus bring peace to an often-violent world.

The word Aikido is comprised of three syllables:

Ai (to join, to harmonize, to connect, to merge, to love)
Ki
(universal creative energy)
Do (the way or path)

Aikido: To connect with the path of universal creative energy
